As you approach the magnificent château through an avenue of poplar trees, you’ll be impressed by the beautiful, peaceful countryside setting of La Garangeoire. The family run parc, a member of the prestigious Castels chain, is only one mile from St Julien des Landes and fifteen minutes drive from the beach. The lovely lake behind the château, surrounded by woodland and green meadows, provides an idyllic setting for hiring a pedalo. The château’s estate buildings have been tastefully converted and now house a new bar and restaurant.

Out and about

For peace and quiet, try the secluded rocky coves along the coast at Sion-sur-l’Océan. The lively resorts of Les Sables d’Olonne, fifteen miles to the south, and St Jean de Monts, to the north, are a contrast to the pretty fishing port of St Gilles Croix-de-Vie. You can visit the lake at Apremont where you can explore the castle ruins, laze on the grassy banks with a picnic and try your hand at windsurfing.

Château de Talmont St Hilaire

Located on a rock, surrounded by water, the fortress of Talmont played an important part in the defense of Poitou against the invading Normans. Years later, several kings of France were made welcome along with Richard the Lion Heart during the crusade years. Nowadays you can attend medieval demonstrations during the festival period.

Oceanile

This waterpark in the heart of Noirmoutier is over 37000m and has more than 20 aquatic amusements. With slides and waves there is plenty to ensure that the whole family is entertained.
