    Out and about

    Located an hour away from Calais, Fort Mahon Plage is the nearest town to the resort and offers all sorts of shops, bars and restaurants, on the picturesque Côte d'Opale. On resort you have access to a great golf course as well as a lake, popular for canoeing.

          The resort and surrounding area: Marquenterre Ornithological Park: a natural reserve in the Baie de Somme. 300 hectares of sand and mud flats, covered by the sea twice daily. Maison de l’Oiseau: bird centre - a unique place for information and bird-watching. The closeness of the birds and the handlers’ knowledge will help you to recognise birds from their silhouette and colour and learn about their behaviour. The Valloires Gardens: bordering the Authie, a magnificent landscape garden boasting over 5,000 varieties of rare bushes and roses, at the foot of a Cistercian Abbey. The Baie de Somme Railway: 16 km-ride in an old steam or diesel locomotive train across the 'mollières' and salt-meadows. Boat trips or walks in the bay to see the seals and explore the surroundings. Valley of the Somme: its numerous lakes, the 'Puits Tournants', the Vaux Belvedere, Abbeville, Samara Park (25 ha), Amiens and its Cathedral and Picardy Museum, the Naours Caves (refuges developed into a fully-fledged town). The Bay and Valley of L’Authie: Fort-Mahon Plage, Crécy Forest, Etaple-sur-Mer with its fishing museum and the sight of the sea sweeping over the bay at spring tide and its floating huts.
