With safe bathing conditions Quarteira has developed into one of the Algarve's top resorts. Its long, flower-splashed promenade runs alongside an excellent sandy beach offering plenty of space to stretch out on. Quarteira is within easy reach of several championship golf courses, including the Old Course at Vilamoura and the Royal Course at Vale do Lobo. 15 km inland lies Loulé, with a charming 13th-century parish church, and a weekly Gypsy market on Saturdays where you can snap up souvenirs such as lace work, shoes and ceramics.
