Cantabria

General

The coast of Cantabria and Asturias in the north-west is known as the Costa Verde, or ‘Green Coast,’ and few areas of Spain have greater natural beauty. Bordered to the east by Spain’s Basque country, the region has its own distinct customs and traditions. Small coves and broad sandy beaches edge the spectacular Atlantic coast, backed by the beautiful snow-capped mountains and breathtaking gorges of the Picos de Europa.

Places to Visit

Santillana
One of Spain’s most beautiful medieval towns with a labyrinth of cobbled streets and a 12th century monastery.

Santander
A lively bustling port with splendid beaches and superb shops. The Royal Summer Palace and gardens are particularly beautiful.

Los Picos de Europa
Take the cable-car a staggering 6000 feet to the top of these towering mountains for superb views, to the south-west of Santillana.

Bilbao
Visit the famous Guggenheim Museum with many fine examples of modern art, and the old town of Bilbao.

Family Attractions

Aquabrava Waterpark
Near the site at Rosas, with giant spiral waterchutes and slides.
