Overview

For those who like to take the air, or even take to the waters, in relative peace and tranquillity, Ciboure offers all the exhilaration, without too much of the adrenalin. Sheltered in the calmer waters of the St Jean de Luz bay, the watersports and activities here are a degree or two more chilled out than at the larger, high-octane resorts to the north. On land, too, the accent is on quiet enjoyment, rather than thrills and spills. Maybe that's what inspired Ravel (who was born here) to write his restrained, yet passionate music? Ciboure is calm compared to its busy fishing port neighbour of Saint Jean-de-Luz, but there is still plenty to keep you busy. You're not too far from the Spanish border, with the beautiful foothills of the Pyrénées rising in the south. The weather is warmer, and the outdoor life lasts longer, with evening strolls around the harbour. Your residence feels like it could be in Galicia, too, built in traditional style around an inviting pool.
