Forest of Dean (Bracelands' campsite)

Not content with being England's first National Forest Park, the Forest of Dean is one of the only surviving ancient woodlands in England. Once mined extensively for coal, it is located between the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the River Severn. It comprises of 27,000 acres of woodland and hundreds of miles of off-road cycling, riding paths and walking trails.

Cinderford

This small mining town was once the industrial centre of the Forest of Dean. Make sure you visit the nearby Dean Heritage Centre as it details the history of the forest and is now one of the main visitor attractions in the area. Kids of all ages will love the three-mile-long Sculpture Trail through the forest which features a variety of different sculptures, including a stained glass window suspended amongst the trees and a giant’s chair.

Monmouth

Situated on the Welsh border, Monmouth is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Henry V. There are numerous historical sites to explore, including the Town Hall and medieval 13th Century bridge, which is the last of its kind in Britain. The local archaeological sites, which date back to Roman times, are also well-worth visiting.
