Barcelona Guitar Festival

April - May 2012 
The Barcelona Guitar Festival is a programme of various concerts by master musicians, which has gained a great reputation since its inception. The event attracts a variety of artists.

Primavera Sound Festival

30 May - 3 June 2012
Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival is held this year at the end of May. It is a massive line up of top class DJs and live acts held in the newly redeveloped Port Area.

European Balloon Festival

July
The Catalonian town of Igualada each year hosts one of the largest balloon festivals in Europe. Around 25,000 spectators come to watch 40 hot air balloons take to the sky in a colourful display, with market stalls and local cuisine finishing the festival off.

Haro Wine Battle, Haro, Spain

29 June 2012
This bizarre event dates back to 1290 where participants liven up proceedings by “baptizing” each other in wine, involving some 5,000 people wearing white T-shirts until they turn a deep shade of purple. Around 20,000 litres of wine are thrown around and anyone is fair game even television camera crews! When the supplies of ammunition have dwindled the festivities carry on into the night with dancing and fireworks.
